Grace
Nono has collaborated with artists from other disciplines: as co-scorer
with Bob Aves for film productions like Sari Dalena's "Memories
of a Forgotten War," a feature that tackles atrocities committed
during the Philippine-American War; as composer and featured artist
for television's IBC 13 Station ID Pinoy Ang Dating; as co-composer
for the music of multi-media presentations like the WWF World Wildlife
Foundation's presentation to the 2001 conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
She has also collaborated as guest music artist in performances
of dance organizations like the Bayanihan Dance Company, the Philippine
Ballet Theatre, Ballet Philippines, and the Ramon Obusan Folkloric
Group.
Though
primarily a music artist, Grace Nono's early training in Theatre
Arts has allowed her to contribute her talents as thespian to the
following major stage productions, by essaying strong, archetypal
women roles:
|
1
|
Lapu-Lapu,
1996, Cultural Centre of the Philippines, as Bathalumang
Mangugubat |
|
2
|
Luna,
1999, AFP Theatre, as Diwata |
|
3
|
Gatlaya,
2000, St. Cecilia's Hall, as Diwata |
Another
project with the possibility of reaching a wider audience is her
recent collaboration with the ISLA advocacy television channel as
co-producer and host for the new TV series Kamalayan, a program
which focuses on the culture and spirituality of the Filipino.
An
earlier interest in crafts has also been given recent expression,
with Grace Nono's opening of "Living Culture," a shop
that showcases her explorations with contemporary, culture-based
everyday arts, with the use of Philippine-Asian materials and aesthetics.
"Living Culture" also serves as an umbrella for other
Filipino artisans whose works are exhibited there.
