SIMOR'S WALLCOVERING DESIGNS

Simor Abaca Products, Inc., since its inception has put out in the market 20 basic design groups which may be simply described as different in texture as they are varied in geometric patterns.  A million and more sub-groupings and combinations can be achieved.

The biggest competitors of the Philippines' abaca wallcoverings are from natural fibers like seagrass that are woven in South Korea although it has been repeatedly observed that our designs are more imaginative, creative, finer and better in feel and touch and look.  It has been further noted that these handwoven wallcoverings are the only ones of its kind in the world primarily because of its textures, creative designs, and refined raw materials used.

The warp of the abaca wallcovering is the cotton thread while the weft of the abaca wallcovering is the abaca fiber.  Together, the warp and weft make the abaca wallcovering.

The abaca wallcoverings are made out of fibers held in place by interwoven cotton threads in different stitch patterns.  The abaca fibers come from 3 basic sources...

bulletBacbac - which is stripped from the outer layer of the abaca

bulletLupis - which comes from the secondary layer

bulletSinamay - which is the innermost layer and best of the fibers.

Special processing of fibers are required in the manufacture of wallcoverings. It starts with sundrying, cutting, stripping, selection, bundling and finally, laying out.  However, the cotton threads (whatever color) are warped and set in wooden looms while the abaca fibers are carefully inserted, in equal strips of 36 inches or longer as wefts.  The abaca fibers may or may not be dyed.  The final step is the paperbacking process where the paper is glued on the reverse side of the woven wallcoverings before they are cut, trimmed and packaged for delivery.

The Market and Strategies

The marketing objectives of Simor complement the aggressive export drive of the government.  It has sent shipments to both Western Europe and the United States which have resulted in significant volume orders from major cities throughout the world.

Simor has contributed to the attainment of the Filipino's concerted drive towards recognition of Philippine products in the world.
