How does the monitor display colors?

Monitors and televisions produce color by way of electromagnetic waves that correspond to red, green and blue. However, screens aren't able to display the full range of colors which are visible to the human eye. Their range of color is more limited.

Any desired color can be produced by adding the colors of the three color channels (RGB for Red, Green Blue). This is called additive color mixing. If the colors of of two of the color channels are mixed in equel proportions, new base colors are created.

Blue and green add up to a bright, light blue called cyan. Magenta, a bright pink, is made by mixing red and blue. Red and green together make yellow.

If red, green and blue light are mixed equally together at full power, you get white light.
