Capitol, Butuan City - The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Agusan del Norte has approved Municipal Resolution No. 299-99 of Buenavista, this province, adopting the implementation of its Strategic Agricultural and Fisheries Development Zone (SAFDZ).

The SAFDZ is geared for the development of agro-forestry, watershed-forestry, built-up area, strategic crop sub-development, and strategic fisheries sub-development zones.

In its review, the SP Committee on Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection pushed for the approval of the said SAFDZ since it is in consonance with the provisions of the "Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act of 1997".

Section 5 of R.A. 8435 provides the policy of which to ensure that all sectors of the economy and all regions of the country shall be given optimum opportunity to develop through the national and sustainable use of resources peculiar to each area inorder to maximize agricultural productivity, promote efficiency and equity and accelerate the modernization of the agricultural and fisheries sectors of the country".

The committee further recommends that all municipal SAFDZ will be consolidated at the Provincial Agriculturist Office to come up with a Provincial Strategic Agriculture and Fisheries Development Zone.
