HISTORY 

        The Philippine Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons (PATACSI), Incorporated is the organization of all certified thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons practicing in the Philippines. It is an official affiliate association of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA) and the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS). It is a recognized non-stock corporation under Philippine Laws with principal office at the Lung Center of the Philippines, Quezon City. 

        The organization held its Inauguration as the "Philippine Association of Thoracic Surgeons (PATS)" and its first Induction of Officers on April 8, 1959. Dr. Angel I. Reyes was elected the first president with Dr. Denton A. Cooley as Inducting Officer.  

        Dr. Enrique Garcia was the second president during whose term all practicing thoracic surgeons in the Philippines became members. On December 26, 1973, under the term of Dr. Romeo Estrellado, the association was incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission. In 1981, under its 22nd president, Dr. Avenilo P. Aventura, the association changed its name from PATS to its present name, Philippine Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons, Inc. (PATACSI).
         

        OBJECTIVES 

        The primary purpose of PATACSI is to maintain the highest standards of practice of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. Its secondary objectives are: 

        • To encourage, promote and share knowledge and experience in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery. 
        • To coordinate with medical schools and hospitals in maintaining a high standard of medical and surgical education and training in the specialty of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.
        • To foster a program of research in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery.
        • To safeguard the professional interests and welfare of the fellows or members.
        • To cultivate a spirit of cordiality and brotherhood among its members.

        To attain its objectives, PATACSI holds an annual postgraduate course and scientific meetings at least three times a year (Events / What’s New). It coordinates and accredits training programs in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in the different medical schools and hospitals. It holds special meetings and organizes other activities as deemed necessary by its officers (Organization) and members (Members). It publishes researches and pertinent articles on thoracic and cardiovascular surgery in its own Philippine Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (Journal).
